Newgrounds Q&A:

Question: Why does Newgrounds celebrate the spammers.

Answer: That's a loaded question. To some extent these groups do actually hold a lot of potential, the fact of the matter is they only usually flex these abilities once a year and it is limited to just a select few of their members. Part of it is that they're trying to give these groups the benefit of the doubt - the feeling of an accomplishment even though most of them are bottom feeders. This has worked with a few, but the entity as a whole will retain their less favorable ways. What I was specifically told though reminded me of Storm of the Century and is having about the same effect. "Give me what I want and I'll go away." Newgrounds permits, celebrates, and even awards a lot of these groups in hopes that they'll feel a sense of self satisfaction in life and go away. Well... If that really is the case, plan failed.

As far as I'm concerned, the real reason this is permitted is because the staff either feel it is below them, or that it would cost them too much publicity to simply dismiss and ward off people like this. Money and effort are two prime factors in administrating. Almost every moderator or administrator I've ever worked for procrastinated for one of those two reasons, if not both.

Tip #4 of Newgrounds: Ever notice how the rating system sometimes knocks down someone's score if you rate it with even a four instead of a five? That is actually part of the reason a lot of people score something with either a 1 (blam) or a 5 (save). That way their score doesn't affect it in anyway they don't want it to. Plus, this gives points to their blam/saves scores so they get that extra voting boost - Something to note when you're new.
